Genealogy - Robert Combs Lineage

 

Robert Combs
Robert Combs was born 9 January 1827 in Kentucky.  On 21 October 1849, he married Edna Elizabeth Campbell (b. 15 September 1832 in Tennessee).  Together they had eight children.  Elizabeth died 15 June 1883.  After Elizabeth's death, Robert married Francis "Famie" Elizabeth Dixon (b. 21 October 1846).  Together they had one child (Ransom).  Robert died 6 June 1902.  Famie died 20 January 1933. Robert, Elizabeth, Jackson "Jack", Famie, and Ransom are all buried in Combs Cemetery.  

Census records indicate that Robert's father was from Virginia and his mother was from North Carolina. It is believed that Robert was the son of Thomas Combs, born in Virginia in 1770.  DNA testing has confirmed that the lineage of Robert Combs ultimately traces back to Jonathan Combs of New Jersey.

    • In 1915, Arkansas began granting pensions to the widows and mothers of Confederate veterans.  The Arkansas legislative Act 187 of 1917 added Fannie Elizabeth Combs (second wife of Robert Combs) to the "Pensioners Roll".  The pension application file only contains the questionnaire to supplement the pension application on file in the auditors office and the county clerk certificate documenting the death of Fannie Elizabeth Combs.

Samuel Combs
 Samuel Combs was born February 28, 1852.  He is believed to have been married three times. He had three children, Robert H. Combs (b. Abt 1873), Joseph Thomas Combs (b. 4 Mar 1874) and George W. Combs (b. Abt 1876).  Samuel Combs and his family are not buried in Combs Cemetery.

Alexander Combs
 Alexander Combs was born 1857 in Arkansas.  He married Josephine C. Harvell, who was born in Tennessee in 1858.  Alexander Combs died between 1910 and 1920. Alexander and his family are not buried in Combs Cemetery.

Henry Combs
 Henry Combs was born April 22, 1862 in Arkansas.  On April 14, 1883, he married Louida Frances Coonrad / Conrad (b. September 1862 in Tennessee).  They were married in Izard County, Arkansas and together they had eight children.

Henry Combs is not buried in Combs Cemetery.  Henry, his wife Lou Ida, son Jesse, and his daughter-in-law Mollie Elizabeth (Everett) are buried in the Rush Springs Cemetery (Grady County), Rush Springs, OK.  They are in the South Public Block # 2, at the following locations (coordinates recorded 08.16.08).

Jackson "Jack" Combs
Jackson "Jack" Combs was born November 26, 1866 in Missouri.  On February 24, 1887, he married Nancy Lee Conrad / Coonrad (b. October 6, 1867 in Tennessee). Together they had thirteen children.  Seven of the children (Floy, Mary, Sallie, Charles, Ralph, Jackson "Joe" Jr and Harlen) are buried in Combs Cemetery.

Ransom Combs was born January 5, 1885.  On February 25, 1904, he married Heskey Ann Mayfield (b. August 28, 1879 / d. Abt. August 1964 in Arkansas). Together they had at least one child (Robert Jasper, b. August 6, 1906 / d. January 10, 1912). Ransom Combs died September 12, 1938.
